Airrays Gmbh & Amphenol Antenna Solutions Announce Integration of Large Scale Active Antenna
Amboise (France), February 2, 2018 – Amphenol Antenna Solutions (AAS), in partnership with Airrays Gmbh, has today announced the integration of its active platform into legacy platform solutions. The move is designed to bridge the gap towards 5G by enabling an active antenna to be easily introduced in 2G/3G/4G legacy networks.
By 2020 it is predicted over six billion smartphone users will each use 14GB of data every month. The move to 5G is there not only inevitable, but essential.
While the shift to 5G presents opportunities for mobile network operators, such a change requires time and financial investment.
Arnaud Baron, VP Sales and Marketing EMEA-APAC, comments, “The challenge for the industry is to make the right investment to ensure today’s technology has the capacity to support 5G. Therefore, testing the right solution in real conditions is the key challenge for 2018.
“While the market works to overlay 4G networks with 5G radio solutions, Airrays and Amphenol have continued to trial and mature an active antenna system for multiple applications.
“As a result, the range of frequency bands has been expanded, key parameters such as the output power have been tuned and advanced smart antenna features have been added to the capabilities of the product.
“Moreover, Ethernet fronthaul connectivity has been offered as a convenient way to roll-out the solution, after the native CPRI and eCPRI support. Hybrid solutions are also envisaged, mixing passive legacy and active antenna in the same enclosure, in order to cope with constraint of using one single mast.”
